Jesus Would’ve Sat With the LGBTQ Community, the immigrants and loved the women who had an AB — "Why aren't you?”

I’m a liberal. I’m Black. I live in a blue state. I voted for Kamala Harris. I believe immigrants deserve safety, the LGBTQ+ community deserves rights, and women deserve control over their own bodies. And I believe in Jesus Christ. That might confuse some people, especially those who’ve been taught that Christianity is about controlling others, creating laws, or deciding who’s worthy of rights. But that’s not Christianity — at least not the kind Jesus taught.
This blog isn’t about politics. It’s about the truth. And the truth is this: if you let immigrants go hungry, if you pass laws that strip LGBTQ people of their rights, if you block access to healthcare, and then call yourself a Christian — you’re not living like Christ. You’re not following the gospel. You’re not doing what He asked.
Jesus Made It Simple: Love Your Neighbor
People love to quote the Ten Commandments. They teach Bible stories in Sunday school. But when’s the last time we talked about what Jesus actually said? Not what others said about Him, but His own words — especially during the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7). That’s where Jesus directly told us how to live.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
He didn’t say, “Blessed are the lawmakers who control sinners.”
He didn’t say, “Blessed are the ones who make sure gay people feel unwanted.”
He said love your enemies, give to the poor, and take the log out of your own eye before judging others.
So why are so many Christians ignoring that? Why are we cosplaying God — judge, jury, and executioner — when God never asked for our help in judging others?
God Is Judge — Not You
If we truly believe God is the King, the Judge, the One with all power — then we need to stop acting like we’re on His throne.
God didn’t create laws to criminalize gay people. Humans did.
God didn’t ban immigrants from borders. Governments did.
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” – Matthew 7:1
Some people say, “But homosexuality is a sin!” Okay, let’s say it is. Now what?
Jesus didn’t say punish sinners. He didn’t say create laws to isolate them. In fact, He said the opposite: He ate with sinners, loved them, welcomed them, and forgave them.
The Bible says:
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23
“No sin is greater than another.” – James 2:10
If we believe that, then we can’t turn around and say LGBTQ+ people deserve fewer rights than someone who gossips or drinks too much.
We’ve all sinned. Period.
Parenting and Faith: Love Wins Hearts
Let’s talk about human psychology. Most parents know this: if you raise your kid with love, patience, and open arms, they’ll likely love and respect you back. But if you rule with fear, control, and judgment — they might obey you now, but hate you later.
It’s the same with faith.
You don’t bring people to Christ by rejecting them.
You bring them by accepting them.
You don’t win souls with laws.
You win them with love.
“They will know we are Christians by our love.” – John 13:35
But if your “Christianity” is all about who’s in and who’s out — then don’t be surprised when people walk away.
What If It’s Just a Phase?
Let’s say a person is exploring gender identity or their sexuality. Some folks panic and try to control them. But what if we took a different route?
Imagine how a mother bird treats her chicks. She lets them flap their wings. Take risks. Fall. Learn. She doesn’t lock them in a cage.
If it’s a phase, they’ll grow. If it’s not, then that’s their truth. Either way, our job isn’t to correct them — it’s to love them.
Fruitful Doesn’t Just Mean “Have Babies”
God told us to be fruitful and multiply. Some take that to mean “just have kids.” But what about the fruits of the Spirit?
“Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” – Galatians 5:22–23
That’s what we’re called to multiply. That’s the fruit that builds the Kingdom.
We’re not better than anyone. We’re not God. We’re not in charge of heaven and hell. We’re brothers and sisters, all trying to do our best.
Why People Are Leaving Christianity
Let’s be real. Fewer people are becoming Christians. Not because they hate God — but because the people who say they follow Him don’t act like Him.
If someone doesn’t fit into your Christian bubble — they leave. Not because of Jesus, but because of you.
But imagine if we welcomed them. Loved them. Ate with them. Laughed with them. Told them they were worthy, even if they were still struggling. Do you know how many more people would follow Christ?
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
Jesus called people in. We keep pushing them out.
The devil is the author of confusion — and confusion happens when churches start sounding more like political parties than places of peace.
Kamala is a Devil Worshiper but Trump is A Christian?
Let’s take a moment to flip the script. You ever notice how MAGA supporters or hardline Republicans are quick to question the faith of liberals or Democrats? They’ll shout from the rooftops that the left isn’t “Christian enough” or that progressive values don’t align with the Bible. But let’s be real—if we’re gonna question someone’s Christianity, it has to be consistent.
Take Kamala Harris for example. Whether you like her or not, there’s documentation and public record that she attends church, and those who know her vouch for her faith walk. Same with Barack Obama. You may not agree with all his policies, but he’s gone on record talking about his faith journey, referencing scripture, and even attended church during his presidency—multiple churches, in fact.
Now let’s talk about Trump. When asked what his favorite Bible verse is, his response? “That’s personal. I don’t like to share that.” That might sound spiritual to some, but it’s the opposite of what the Bible teaches. Jesus said in Matthew 10:27 (NIV): “What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs.” The Word is not meant to be hidden—it’s meant to be shared boldly.
Now let me be clear: I’m not saying Trump isn’t a Christian. That’s not my call. God is the judge. But if we’re being honest, you can’t blast liberals for being “fake Christians” while giving Trump a free pass just because he waves an American flag.
We need to keep the same energy. If we’re looking at fruit—which the Bible says is how you spot the real from the fake—then let’s go there. Matthew 7:16 says: “You will know them by their fruits.” It doesn’t say you’ll know them by their party affiliation or how often they say “God bless America.” It says fruit. As in actions. As in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (see Galatians 5:22–23). If we don’t see that in someone—left or right—we need to ask questions.
And then there’s this Trump-endorsed Bible going around. It’s not just the Bible—it includes the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Now, again, I’m not saying Trump wrote it. But I am saying folks are promoting and buying it, and it’s being sold at prices far above the cost of a regular Bible. That raises red flags. John 2:16 reminds us of Jesus flipping the tables in the temple, saying: “Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” So how is selling a $60+ “Trump Bible” any different?
All I’m saying is—let’s be fair. If you’re quick to call out someone on the left as “unchristian,” be just as quick to question the idols being created on the right. And don’t take my word for it. Read the Word yourself. God gave us plenty of warnings about false prophets and deception.
1 John 4:1: “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
2 Timothy 3:5: “Having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”
Matthew 24:24: “For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.”
You don’t have to trust me—just ask yourself: who fits that description?
Final Word: We Were Never Told to Rule — We Were Told to Love
Let’s get this straight: Christians were never told to create laws.
We were told to love.
We weren’t told to rule.
We were told to serve.
If you believe abortion is a sin — okay. Then offer love, counseling, resources, prayer. Not judgment.
If you believe LGBTQ+ identities are wrong — okay. Then show them kindness, compassion, and truth in love. Not rejection.
Because that’s what Jesus did.
He knew sin was real — and still chose to die for all of us anyway.
So stop trying to gatekeep heaven.
You don’t hold the keys.
He does.
Amen.
